Movement Assessment in Austin: What It Measures and Who It's For

Updated 2026-07-21

A movement assessment measures how your body actually stands, walks, runs, and rotates - then turns that into a plan. At Kinetic Blueprint in Old West Austin, our Foundational Assessment combines AI posture analysis, gait video, body composition, and a structural history in one session. You leave with real numbers and a clear path, not a generic workout. Most clients start here because training without measurement is guessing in expensive clothes.

What is a movement assessment?

A movement assessment is a structured evaluation of how you produce and control movement. It looks at posture under load, the way you walk, joint range and symmetry, breathing mechanics, and your movement history. The point is to find the root cause of pain or plateau, not the symptom.

Most gyms skip this. They hand you a program built for a body they never measured. We begin every relationship with the measurement because it is the entire reason the work that follows is targeted.

Kinetic Blueprint is a Functional Patterns training studio in Austin. We assess through the lens of the four core human patterns: stand, walk, run, throw. Get those right and most knee, hip, and low-back complaints start to resolve upstream.

What a movement assessment measures at Kinetic Blueprint

Our assessment is built on the Measure - Map - Move method. The measurement layer includes:

  • AI posture analysis - front, side, and rear structural alignment captured and scored, so forward head, rounded shoulders, and pelvic tilt become numbers you can track.
  • Gait video analysis - we film and break down your walk, the most-repeated pattern in human life. See gait analysis in Austin.
  • Body composition (InBody) - muscle mass, body fat, and segmental balance. See body composition testing in Austin.
  • Movement and structural history - past injuries, surgeries, sport, and work demands that shaped how you move today.
  • Breath and alignment screening - because breathing mechanics drive rib position, and rib position drives everything above the pelvis.

No vibes. Data. Every number becomes a reference point we re-test against, so progress is proven, not felt.

Who a movement assessment is for

  • People with pain that hasn't resolved - chronic back, neck, or joint pain that conventional approaches did not fix. We measure the structure first, then build the work that addresses the root.
  • Desk-bound professionals - forward head, rounded shoulders, and anterior pelvic tilt that office work and gravity quietly compound.
  • Runners, lifters, golfers, and fighters - asymmetric sports build asymmetric bodies. We find the asymmetry before it ends your training window.
  • Postpartum recovery - pelvic floor, core integration, and gait reorganization, assessed where your body actually is.
  • Anyone who wants training to compound for decades - work designed to keep working at 60, 70, and 80.

How the assessment works, step by step

  1. Book your assessment. Start with the Complimentary Consultation ($0) or the Foundational Assessment ($279 founding price, from $379). Claim Free Consult.
  2. Measure. We capture posture, gait, body composition, and history in one focused session.
  3. Map. We read the data and build a plan that sequences corrective patterns first, structural progressions next, performance work after.
  4. Move. You train with real coaching and real feedback, then we re-measure. The blueprint adapts.

Most clients leave their first session understanding why their previous routines were not getting them anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a movement assessment take?

Plan for about 60 to 90 minutes for the Foundational Assessment. You leave the same session with your findings and a recommended plan.

Do I need to be in pain or in shape to get assessed?

No. The assessment is for anyone who wants to know how they move, whether you are managing pain, chasing performance, or building for the long term.

What should I wear?

Fitted athletic clothing so we can see and film how you move. The posture and gait capture need a clear read of your body.

Is this physical therapy?

No. Kinetic Blueprint is a movement and biomechanics training studio, not a medical clinic. We assess and train movement. If something needs medical care, we tell you and refer out.

How is this different from a Functional Movement Screen?

A basic screen is a pass or fail on a handful of movements. Our assessment measures posture, gait, body composition, and history together, then maps a plan. It is analytical, not a checklist.

What do I leave with?

Your measured baseline and a mapped plan. The Free Blueprint PDF is a preview of how we think if you want to start before you book.
