Posture Analysis in Austin: See Where You Actually Stand

Posture analysis is a set of front and side photos, read by AI and compared by eye, that shows how your body stacks when you stand. At Kinetic Blueprint, a Functional Patterns movement and biomechanics training studio in Old West Austin, it's one of the ways we measure you before training starts, and the way we check whether training changed anything.

You probably have a feeling about your posture. A photo from the side can tell you more in a second than years of guessing. The point isn't the photo. It's taking the same photo again later and seeing what moved.

What is posture analysis?

It's a measurement of how you hold yourself against gravity. We take photos from the front and from the side, standing the way you normally stand. AI reads them, and we compare them by eye, looking at how each part of the body sits over the part below it:

  • the head over the ribcage,
  • the ribcage over the pelvis,
  • the pelvis over the feet,
  • and whether the weight sits evenly left to right and front to back.

Then we set the first photos next to the next ones. That side-by-side comparison is the whole value. One photo is a snapshot. Two photos, taken the same way weeks apart, are a measurement of change.

What posture analysis can't tell you

It can't diagnose anything. It's how you stood on one day, in one moment.

It also can't tell you that your posture is the cause of your pain, and we won't use it that way. A review of 41 systematic reviews found that posture and low back pain have been linked, with no consensus that posture causes the pain (PMID 31451200). So a posture photo is a baseline to train against, not a verdict about your body.

How posture analysis fits the assessment

It's one of the four instruments we use to verify change over a training block, alongside an InBody scan, gait analysis video and VO2 testing. Together they cover how you stand, how you walk and run, what you're made of and how your engine performs.

Where it sits in a program:

  1. Before. Front and side photos set the baseline, alongside a movement assessment that watches you walk, run and reach.
  2. During. The training aims at the pattern the photos and the movement screen show together.
  3. After. We re-take the same photos the same way, and you see the before and after side by side.

The full ladder of assessments, from a first look to the complete Kinetic Blueprint, is on our assessment page. If what you want is the training that follows, that's posture correction.

Question Posture analysis answers it Posture analysis does not answer it
Where does my head sit over my body? Yes
Is my weight even left to right? Yes
Did training change how I stand? Yes, before against after
What is causing my pain? No, and we won't claim it does
Do I have a medical condition? No, see a doctor

Who this is for

Anyone in Austin who wants to see how they actually stand instead of guessing. People starting a training program who want a baseline they can check against. People whose posture has been drifting for years. People who've been told they have "bad posture" and want to know what that means on their own body.

Frequently asked questions

What does posture analysis measure?
How the body stacks when you stand: the head over the ribcage, the ribcage over the pelvis, the pelvis over the feet, from the front and from the side. AI reads the photos and we compare them by eye, so we see the shifts and the tilts, not just a score.
Is posture analysis a diagnosis?
No. It's a measurement of how you stand on the day it's taken. It doesn't diagnose a condition, and posture on its own isn't proof of what causes pain. We use it as a baseline to train against and re-test.
How is it different from posture correction?
Posture analysis is the measurement. Posture correction is the training that follows it. We take the same photos, the same way, before and after, so the change is on the page.
Do I need to prepare anything?
Wear clothes that let us see how you stand, like fitted shorts and a sports top. We take the photos the same way every time, so the next set compares fairly with the first.
