Sports Performance Training in Austin: Power Starts Lower Than You Think

Every sport is built from four things the body does: standing, walking, running and throwing. Kinetic Blueprint is a Functional Patterns movement and biomechanics training studio in Old West Austin. We measure how you do those four things, find where power leaks out of the chain, and train it, then measure again.

A lot of performance training starts with the sport and adds load. We start one step earlier. A golf swing, a sprint, a cut on the field and a deadlift all run through the same chain, from the ground, through the hips and trunk, out to the hands. When one link leaks, you can train harder and still stall.

Pick what you're training for

  • Run: road, trail, marathon, triathlon.
  • Swing & throw: golf, tennis, pickleball, padel, baseball, boxing.
  • Team sport: soccer, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, hockey, flag football.
  • Strength: lifting, CrossFit, HYROX, strength and conditioning.
  • Longevity: hiking, skiing, travel, keeping up with the kids, aging well.

Each page covers what we look for in that sport, what the research says, and how we measure it.

Why the four patterns

Functional Patterns defines functional training as training that optimizes four functions: standing, walking, running and throwing. We score how you move against those four patterns, because they're what every sport above is made of. Running is running. A swing and a throw are the throwing pattern. A lift starts with how you stand. And how well you walk is where longevity starts.

How we measure it

We run one method: Measure, Map, Move. Depending on the sport, that means gait analysis for how you run, a movement assessment for how force travels from the feet to the hands, and the numbers from an InBody scan and VO2 max testing. Then we train and re-test, so the change is measured.
